What are injectables (dermal fillers)
Injectables, or dermal fillers, are non-invasive, non-surgical treatments that help prevent and reverse the visible signs of aging, restoring volume and fullness in the face, without surgery and its accompanying recovery time.
As a person ages, the face naturally loses its subcutaneous fat. The facial muscles are then closer to the skin’s surface, causing smile lines around the mouth and “crow’s feet” around the eyes to become more apparent. The facial skin also stretches with age and its natural collagen and elastin gradually break down, adding to the loss of facial fullness. Other factors that affect the facial skin and hasten wrinkling include: sun exposure, heredity, diet, lifestyle and changes in bone density. While some factors, like bone changes, can’t be prevented, others such as fat, collagen and elastin loss can be minimized.
Injectables address not only the wrinkles themselves but the muscles that cause lines and furrows to form. Injectable fillers plump-up wrinkles while denervating agents (such as Botox®) prevent the muscle contractions that lead to facial lines.
Dr. Samuel Beran, one of the leading plastic surgeons in Westchester, has a thorough understanding of what causes facial aging, and is highly experienced in addressing many signs of facial aging using injectable solutions including: Botox, hyaluronic acid fillers, collagen-based stimulators and fillers, and naturally-injected fat.
The result? Fuller, smoother skin for a younger-looking, more beautiful you.
Injectables Can Be Used To:
- Plump thin lips
- Fill in shallow contours
- Soften facial creases and wrinkles
- Improve the appearance of recessed scars
- Help to reverse early signs of aging
- Compliment facial rejuvenation surgery
Types Of Injectables
Botox (Botulinum toxin) is a cosmetic injection that blocks the nerve signals that cause muscles to contract. This relaxes and smooths the look of lines and wrinkles caused by repetitive movements of the face — most commonly, between the eyebrows, “crow’s feet” around the eyes, smile lines around the mouth and horizontal forehead creases. Botox is also used cosmetically to balance facial asymmetry and relax tight neck bands, as well as medically to reduce perspiration and to treat migraine headaches and muscle spasticity.
Fat Transfer (Fat Grafting or Fat Injection)
A fat grafting procedure transfers fat from areas where you have excess fat, such as the outer thighs, and injects it into areas that are lacking in fat volume, such as your face, hands, breasts or buttocks. This popular, long-lasting procedure produces very pleasing, natural-looking results.
Fillers are a type of minimally invasive gel-like substance used to add volume, alter the contours of the face, and fill in wrinkles. Common areas to inject fillers are in the face, neck and hands, resulting in a fuller, smoother and more youthful appearance. Dermal fillers are among the most popular aesthetic procedures because they produce immediate results, very few risks and little recovery time.
One particular filler which consistently delivers outstanding results for Dr. Beran’s patients is Juvéderm®. There are two types of Juvéderm treatment: Juvéderm® XC that smooths away deep lines around your nose and mouth, and Juvéderm Voluma® XC that adds volume lost to aging in the cheek area. Using a fine needle, Juvéderm is injected under the skin and delivers gravity-defying, natural-looking results that can last up to 1 year.
